Pre-School | Elementary | Junior High | Senior High | Drama | Physical Education Learning at DWAElementary Program - Grades 1 to 6The DWA elementary students benefit the most from having junior and senior high courses taught at the same campus. Since teachers at school are well aware of what it takes to succeed in Grade 12 and graduate to post-secondary education, they are able to start preparing students early. This gives children the greatest possible time to acquire knowledge, hone their skills and develop confident attitudes. The Vertical Integration Curriculum program provides a smooth transition from one grade to the next, emphasizing the introduction of selected concepts and skills from the next grade. Classes are generally 70 minutes long allowing for a variety of activities during class and ample opportunity for the teacher to interact with and dedicate some time to each child. DWA's strong academic program is complemented by Physical Education, Performing Arts which includes Music and Drama, Computers, Health and Cooking, Art, French, Spanish and Community Outreach. With longer class periods and smaller groups, an excellent learning foundation is established. The learning experience is strengthened as the students begin regular homework routines, develop study habits and test taking skills, and work with a variety of teachers starting in Grade 1. By the end of Grade 6, the transition to junior high can be smooth and seamless both in terms of academic work ethic and social interaction. Before and After School Care is available on-site from 7:30 am until 5:30 daily with some holiday exceptions. |
