Charity Gala

November 2010 "An Evening with Kalan Porter"

The Gala Committee is very excited to be presenting Kalan Porter, winner of Canadian Idol (2004), along with his equally talented sister Mackenzie, for an intimate evening performance and dinner at new Gasoline Alley in Heritage Park on November 6, 2010.

Kalan has quickly made a name for himself in the Canadian music industry after winning Canadian Idol at just 19 years of age: his debut single, Awake in a Dream, is the best-selling debut single for a Canadian artist to date and his debut album 219 Days, reached the top five on Canadian charts in the first week.  Kalan won the People's Choice Award for the Favourite Canadian Artist in 2005 and received three Juno award nominations in 2006. He won the No.1 Award from SOCAN for the song Hurray with co-writer Johnston when it reached top spot on the Much Music countdown in 2008.  Kalan released his second album Wake Up Living in 2007 and is set to release his third album later this year.

Tickets include a cocktail hour, dinner, live auction and live performances by both Kalan and Mackenzie. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to see a rising star. Call 403-290-0767 or email info@deltawestacademy.ca for your tickets.

If you are interested in donating to the live auction, becoming a sponsor or advertising in the program, please contact Carola Tiltmann in the school office at 403-290-0767. Eligible charity donations and sponsorships are tax-deductible and a wonderful way to support the students at DWA!

October 2009 "Masks of the World" Gala

The planning committee created another wonderful event on October 23, 2009 in the elegant Palomino Room at the BMO Centre. The main event this year was focused on an international mask display created by the students of Delta West Academy.  Every child from Kindergarten to Grade 12 created a mask specific to an ethnic region in the world and/or a historical time period.  The display ranged from traditional native horse masks to ancient Peruvian grave masks to medieval gargoyle masks with a few Halloween beasties, too.  The best part was that the masks were available for purchase!

Other events for evening included a new favourite, the Fun Money Casino, a Live Auction with professional auctioneer Jason Philp, and a great trip raffle started things off in style. All proceeds from this year's Gala supported additional digital board technology.

Casino

The proceeds from the 2008 Alberta Gaming Casino purchased six digital ActivBoards and another three full set of classroom laptops.  The technology program was extended to include elementary grades and the students are very excited about the new learning opportunities both the laptops and the ActivBoards have enabled.
